Carl Wieland, MB, BS, currently serves as the Managing Director of Creation Ministries International (Australia). He is also the founding editor of Creation magazine.
Dr. Wieland began as an atheist, and later came to a saving understanding of God. In 1977, he founded the Creation Science Association in Australia. One year later, he founded Ex Nihilo, the journal that would later become TJ and finally Creation. In 1979-80 the CSA joined forces with another organization founded by Ken Ham and John Mackay. Wieland turned over control of Ex Nihilo over to the new CSF. In 1987 he became acting director of CSF and expanded it into other territories of the Commonwealth of Nations. CSF first changed its name to Answers in Genesis, a name it held for many years until Ken Ham and his colleagues parted ways with Wieland and his associates. After the split, Wieland continued as head of the Australian organization, now known as Creation Ministries International.
Auto accident
In April 1986 in the Australian “outback”, while moving from Adelaide to Cairns, Carl Wieland was in a head-on collision with a fully laden fuel tanker at a combined speed of 180 km/h (110 mph). He lost one eye, and had one significantly shorter leg by the time the doctors put it back together. In the next seven years he underwent 56 reconstructive surgeries, often with bone taken from his lower rib. During this time he learned that the rib is the only bone in the human body that will grow back once removed, as long as the covering membrane is left intact. He has used this fact in talks to point out that Adam didn’t need to spend the rest of his life with a defect! (Source: CreationWiki.org; GNU Free Documentation License.)

Biography
Dr Carl Wieland is in great demand as a speaker on the scientific evidence for Creation/Flood, and its relevance to Christianity. Able to hold audiences (both academic and lay) with his knowledge, easy-to-listen-to style, and ever-present humor, he has lectured extensively in Australia and internationally.
Dr Wieland is Managing Director of Creation Ministries International in Brisbane, Australia. This ministry organization (which started as Creation Science Foundation, then Answers in Genesis) produces the family magazine Creation (now going to subscribers in over 100 countries), which he founded in 1978.
Carl has authored numerous articles in both Creation magazine and the associated in-depth Journal of Creation (formerly TJ). He has made major contributions to several creationist books including The Creation Answers Book, and is author of Dragons of the Deep: ocean monsters past and present plus the compact booklet Stones and Bones.
His most recent books are Beyond the Shadows: making sense of personal tragedy, which concerns his experiences leading up to and following a head-on collision at highway speeds, and the blockbuster One Human Family: the Bible, science, race and culture. Although his formal qualifications are in medicine and surgery (from Adelaide University in South Australia), Carl has not practised in the medical profession since 1986. He is a past president of the Christian Medical Fellowship of South Australia.
