John Hutchinson (1674-1737) was both a Hebrew scholar and an early student of paleontology, drug following his friend and colleague John Woodward. As Steward to the Duke of Somerset, he developed a strong system of natural philosophy fully consistent with orthodox Christianity. Like Woodward, he strongly defended the Biblical flood as the cause of all major geological landforms.
